about

“I went to a studio in Circus Lane Stockbridge called "BIGBYTE" to transfer some old cassettes onto CD and the engineer Dugald Brough was chatting to me about the tunes I was transferring etc. He asked if I had any new tunes or was I doing anything.......
I said I always have a few tunes hanging about, but not really doing much with them, in no band etc
He said you should record them.........
I liked Dugald from the start so a week or so later I phoned up, booked 3 hours recording and went down to studio and put 3 or 4 songs down to a click track. All acoustic with a wee bit of lecky overdubs.....
That Friday I was in Bannermans in the Cowgate to see a band, I bumped into Dave Maxwell a pal I hadn't seen for a while, he was in a band Sans Trauma.
I first met a "young Dave" in August 1992 while working together at the fringe festival.
He was with Larry Lean of Annie Christian and The Last Great Wilderness.
We got chatting about this and that.....I mentioned the recording I had done that week and Dave said he could play live drums to the click track and Larry said he would put down some guitar.
I arranged the booking and time to visit the studio, picked Dave up with his drums and Larry with his Strat.
We continued visiting studio a day a week or so, on and off for a few months and Larry pretty much took hold of the reins, hassled a bit by Dave and myself.
I would say it is his production.....all present would agree with that, he gave it that sound and played almost everything.........no doubt about it.........
Dugald Brough also was a great engineer and idea man in the studio.......Rate him highly.
We were getting into our stride and really getting into it when the studio closed, the owner of the studio Eddie Macnaughton had a change of plans and wanted to shut down. He did give us some extra time to clear a few bits up, and was always a really great host but just as we were getting grooving`, the place closed down!
I had put a few more songs down to click tracks that we never worked on at all.....
So we ended up with "All Gone Tomorrow".
Electra, my missus did vocals on Quite Life and I sent some files to my old music wizard pal, Kevin Armstrong. Kevin has had a great, well deserved career in the music game his CV is outrageous, he's a great fella and a pal I always feel I'm going to get something done with him before we pop our clogs.
Kev mixed versions of Primordial Soup, Quiet Life & Trigger Happy Go Lucky Town, the first versions you here on the album. Kevin also totally remixed of All Gone Tomorrow, adding drum and bass at the very end of album.
The other mixes in all honesty are just rough desk mixes.
Shame we couldn't do 10 or 12 tunes............
I should have just sussed out another studio and kept the momentum going,
but you all know these kind of stories........
Also I think when Col puts this out on Dogs Got A Bone Records, I will noise up Dave and Larry and get a few more tunes done. We were always on good terms and worked really well together...I guess I just let it all fade away.........
